Papertrey Ink Sneak Peek

Are you ready for another Papertrey Ink release!? I am so excited about the sets being released this month! I say that every month, but it's true... it just keeps getting better and better! The sneak peek I'm sharing tonight comes from a set that I've been wishing for for years. The Father Knows Best set is absolutely perfect for father's day, dad's birthday, or even a classy thinking of you, thank you, or sympathy card. I love my Copic markers so I decided to take the outline image from this set and show you how I colored it with Copics.

I started by stamping the image in Palette Burnt Umber ink onto Wausau Ivory cardstock. The type of ink and cardstock you use with Copics does have an effect on how your image turns out. Many inks will bleed and you want a cardstock with a good texture (not smooth) that will accept several layers of ink.

I always start by coloring the image with the lightest color of the colors I select. In this case, I used YG91 Putty.

Then I highlighted each leaf with YG95 Pale Olive.

At this point I decided that my light source was coming from the top right of the tree. So the leaves toward the bottom and left will be darker than those closer to the light source. I used YG97 Spanish Olive to make the leaves even darker. I don't have an art background so if I said something wrong in my explanation, forgive me! I just like to color and I do whatever comes naturally and seems to look right.

I used the same principal described above to color the tree trunk with E57 Light Walnut and E59 Walnut. Then I used E50 Egg Shell to highlight in between each leaf and around the tree.

See... wasn't that easy? I know a lot of people are intimidated by the Copic markers, but with this beautiful image Nichole has designed, using the Copics is a cinch! The image is paired with patterned paper from Stampin' Up and a sentiment from the Father Knows Best set. I colored adhesive pearls with Pale Olive Copic to match the paper.

Thanks for stopping by tonight! If you haven't already, make sure you check out Nichole's sneak peek!

Taylor, I check out your blog daily but this is the first time I have left a message.
I really love what you have done with the tree. Aren't the sentiments in the set lovely. Nichole took my thoughts and put them on paper better than I could have imagined.
So glad you like this set.
